EVENT ALERT SYSTEM UPDATES
The Event Alert System (EAS) communicates the status of course conditions to participants leading up to and on race day. The levels range from Low (green) to Moderate (yellow) to High (red) to Extreme (black) based on a variety of factors, including weather conditions.
- E-mail and website communications during race week will inform participants of the current Event Alert System status and provide preparation tips based on advance weather forecasts.
- Updates will be made at the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle Health & Fitness Expo via handouts at the Participant Packet Pick-Up area and public address announcements.
- On race day, the current Event Alert System status is communicated via public address announcements and color-coded signs/flags at the start and finish areas, along the course at each Aid Station, and via large digital traffic message boards.
All participants should familiarize themselves with the Event Alert System prior to the race, remain alert for directions from race officials and announcers and take precautions to prepare properly for varying weather conditions on race day.

Preparation tips
Individuals who will be working outside this weekend are advised to dress accordingly, and to pay attention to the most up-to-date weather forecasts. Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle Medical Director Dr. George Chiampas suggests the following preparation tips for race day:
- In cooler and cold temperatures listen to your body. Pay attention for any symptoms of pain, numbness or change in color of your skin that does not improve after 15 to 20 minutes of exposure to a warm environment. If you experience any of these symptoms, please seek assistance from event medical personnel.
- Plan: The day before have a plan of the clothing you will bring with you so you are prepared for your race role.
- Hydrate: While you may not feel as thirsty in cooler temperatures than in warmer conditions, it is still important for you to stay hydrated.
- Layers: Wear multiple layers. Avoid heavy cotton fabrics that absorb and retain moisture; opt for technical fabrics that shed moisture and wick water away from the body. Keep your outer layers as dry as possible and consider bringing extra layers of clothes.
- Cover: Wear gloves, hats and a second layer of socks to help retain body heat in the cold.
- Cold conditions: If your role requires you to have extended exposure to cold temperatures, we encourage you to seek opportunities to warm up in a sheltered environment. Please work with your team leader to coordinate these opportunities.
- Wet and/or windy conditions: If your role requires you to have extended exposure to wet and/or windy conditions, we encourage you to seek opportunities to stay dry and warm in a sheltered environment. Please work with your team leader to coordinate these opportunities. In wet conditions, it is also important to use caution for slippery surfaces due to standing water and freezing precipitation overnight.
- Event gear and credential: Please make your best effort to wear your race-issued gear as your visible outer-layer. However, the event’s primary concern is for your comfort and safety, so do what is necessary to keep warm and dry while you are working.
Please be advised that event credentials must be visible at all times.
